Sidney Dekker (PhD Ohio State University, USA, 1996) is a professor at Griffith University, where he runs the Safety Science Innovation Lab. He is also chief scientist at Art of Work. Previously, he was Professor of human factors and system safety at Lund University in Sweden.

He has won worldwide acclaim for his groundbreaking work in human factors and safety. His debut documentary Safety Differently was released in 2017, and his documentary Just Culture in 2018. He is best-selling author of, most recently: The Safety Anarchist (2018); The End of Heaven (2017); Safety Differently (2015); The Field Guide to Understanding ‘Human Error’ (2014); Second Victim (2013); Drift into Failure (2012); and Patient Safety (2011). His latest book is Foundations of Safety Science (2019).

Sidney will present a keynote address on Thursday morning at Ozwater, and then delegates will have an opportunity to attend a 90-minute workshop with Sidney where he will unpack further the case for doing ‘safety differently’. The workshop forms part of the Industry Safety and Wellbeing Program, sponsored by John Holland.
